Jane Austen Reacts to Pride + Prejudice + Zombies
Since the Immortal Writers have trusted me with their story, William Shakespeare has also entrusted me to post his and other writers' responses to adaptations of their work, fan fiction, and other material. Here is Jane Austen's reaction to the film adaptation of Pride + Prejudice + Zombies. -Jill
It is a truth universally acknowledged that Hollywood must be in want of good story material. That is why, I presume, so many adaptations have been made of my work. And so, I was unsurprised that there was yet another film being made of Pride & Prejudice.
Then Bowers here told me that they included zombies in my beloved masterpiece.
Zombies.
I was skeptical to see the film. I feared that I would disapprove of it. If anything, it seems to be following today's trends, and I wrote my novels to poke fun at the trends of the time.
However, I was pleasantly surprised with this film. I enjoyed it. It stayed true, more or less, to my masterpiece, while adding in the zombie element. While it is, perhaps, a bit too gory for my taste, I can appreciate that it makes my beautiful story accessible to new and different audiences.
I'm not sure how to take the news that it is Bowers' favorite version of Pride & Prejudice, however. I fear it may be a veiled insult to my person, though we both certainly enjoyed the film.
I shall be reading the books promptly, though I'm still a bit miffed at the idea of such gore in my beloved work.
