Writing Prompt #23
I remember the first time I read Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, by J.K. Rowling. I remember being small and opening the book with little hands. I remember the smell that surrounded me while I read, the smell of the book, the feel of the book...the paper in my hands, the slightly dusty musk of the pages, the flexibility of the cover...
I remember hiding under my bed sheets with a flashlight and finishing the book. It was the first chapter book I finished in less than 24 hours. My mother was furious when she came to wake us up for school and found me just finishing the novel, peeking up at her with a worried grin, tired eyes and an almost-burned-out flashlight.
But I remember being delighted, and I remember craving words and magic and story in my life more than ever.
For this week's writing prompt, I want you to tell me about one of the magical experiences you have had reading. Tell me who your best fictional friend was, who mentored you in books, or who your arch nemesis was (mine was bed time in real life). Show me what made that moment so special and magical.
Happy writing, and happy reading!
